Returning Students – Building Confidence

Alexa is a returning student to our Literacy Lab program this year. As a second-year student, Alexa loves any opportunity to be a teacher’s helper and on the first day of school, she helped to teach other classmates how to sing our morning songs. At the beginning of last year, as a 3-year old, Alexa could not recognize her name. With practice, she began to recognize her name, and start working on writing the letter “A”. By the end of January, Alexa had moved to writing her whole name! During Spring, throughout our distance learning efforts, Alexa continued to work with her mom and before the end of the year, she was able to write her entire name! This year, she has already reminded us that she knows how to write her first name, so we are now practicing writing her last name. With the help of a very supportive family, Alexa has built a very strong foundation for the future. We are so excited to see what wonderful progress Alexa will continue to make in the coming months, and in Kindergarten next year!
